Abstract/Contents:Discusses integrated pest management (IPM), which is "a descision-making process that uses a combination of techniques to suppress pests." Presents five elements of IPM, including "indentifying potential pest problems." Presents the four cornerstones of any IPM program, which are basic ecological knowledge, arsenal development, surveillance and/or forecasting and pest management strategies. Discusses integrated cultural management (ICM), which is "the process of managing sports by considering and analyzing all environmental factors, pests, maintenance processes and player-applied stresses which affect the health of the turf culture." Presents three broad components of ICM, which are cultural practices, training and communication. Presents seven steps for IPM development and implementation, including establishing plan objectives, setting priorities and categorizing sites/areas, site inventory and resource assessment, site assessment and analysis, drafing the IPM program, program implementation and program evaluation and revision. States that "good turf management is the primary feature of effective pest control in any attempt to reduce pest damage in turf - whether it is called IPM or not."
