Abstract/Contents:"As the major sports of the present day have developed over the centuries, the favoured surface, in all but a few notable casers, has been natural grass. The versatility of this natural product has meant that sports with requirements as diverse as rugby and bowls, polo and cricket can be performed on the surface to the very highest level. Only when you consider the disparate demands that sports, such as golf and football, place on the playing surface do you realise the unique properties of the most natural surface in sport." Discusses many considerations when choosing natural versus artificial turf including considerations such as climate, cost of maintenance, multi-sports applications, and intensity of use.
