Abstract/Contents: | Although it is common to hear a discussion concerning turf and meadows as alternatives to one another, the definitions of the two vegetation types are not as mutually exclusive as one might be led to believe. Attempting to clarify their similarities and differences, turf grasses are described to be predominantly grasses that are highly wear resistant and are most so when cut low to the ground, while meadows are less wear resistant and need mowing only infrequently if they are to survive. Lastly, several kinds of flowering meadows or flowering turfgrass mixtures (Blumenwiesen/Blumenrasen) are evaluated, most found to be highly defecient when it comes to actually establishing a permanent flowering green cover. It would be more beneficial to investigate how the two vegetation types can compliment each other. |
