Abstract/Contents: | "Twenty four isolates of Rhizoctonia solani (AG 2-2 LP) from bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon(L.) pers. var. dactylon]), centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides [Munro] Hack), St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum [Walter] Kuntze), and zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) collected in South Carolina and other states were investigated for genetic variation using Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) DNA fingerprinting markers. One isolate of R. Solani (AG 2-2 IIIB) from perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), and one isolate of R. cerealis from rough bluegrass (Poa trivialis L.) were included for comparison, and were distinct from R. solani AG 2-2 LP isolates. There was little genetic variation detected among R. solani isolates from warm-season turfgrasses. These isolates were not clustered either according to the hosts from which they were isolated or their geographic origins. Therefore, isolates of R. solani AG 2-2 LP from warm-season turfgrasses utilized in this study appear to be genetically homogeneous." |
