Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the importance of properly selecting herbicides to successfully establish zoysiagrass and explains why zoysiagrass is one of the popular turfs to use for fairways, tees and rough areas on the golf course. Describes some of the major challenges that prohibit zoysiagrass from establishing successfully, including that "zoysiagrass is generally a slow-germinating species with poor seedling vigor, [so] weed competition during establishment can significantly reduce stand establishment." Presents a study "to determine the tolerance of seedling zoysiagrass to a range of post-emergence herbicides." Results indicate that "some of the treatments...significantly reduced turfgrass establishment rates compared to the untreated control." Describes the impact of several different herbicidial treatments on turf and states that "although significant injury was observed with many of the herbicide combinations, turfgrass cover was only reduced by a few of the treatment combinations." Concludes that "the herbicide combinations tested in these trials caused varying levels of injury to seedling zoysiagrass." |
