Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how the media has exposed the effects of grain on golf putts and profiles Turf Management for Golf Courses by James B Beard. States that grain is "the undesirable procumbently oriented growth of grass leaves, shoots, and stolons on putting greens; a rolling ball tends to be deflected from a true course in the direction of the turf grain orientation." Gives the history of grain and how it has evolved over time and discusses how the increase of putting green management has increased the speeds of the greens. Suggests that the effect of grain on golf putts is not a factor due to the height of the greens. |
