Abstract/Contents: | Article discusses effective management of white grubs in turf. The first step is to determine if grubs are present, then plans for control can be implemented. It is better to apply pesticides for control in the early spring rather than as a preventative method which may result in microbial degradation of insecticides and render future application ineffective as well as possibly contaminate the environment. Treatments should be watered in after application to reduce exposure and risk for humans or pets, to reduce degradation by sunlight, and to move the insecticide throught the thatch and into the soil. The one exception is treatment for green june beetles which need not be watered in as the grub is active at night near the soil surface and will contact the insecticide. |
