Abstract/Contents: | The effect of 9 different treatments at sowing on the establishment of a sward of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) was determined in field-plot tests in the United Kingdom in 1983. Because of dry weather preceding and following sowing, yields in all plots were low. However, broadcast treatment with aldicarb granules at 10 kg a.i./ha was effective, and similar treatment with phorate at 1.7 and 3.4 kg also tended to enhance yield. The effects of carbosulfan granules drilled with the seed were considered to warrant further study. The results gave further support to the notion that pest damage to newly sown swards occurs frequently and can be prevented by the use of pesticides. |
