Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a "case brought against Bernardo Heights Country Club [in San Diego, California which stated]...that allowing the families of married members to golf gratis while charging the partners of gay members constitutes 'impermissible marital status discrimination.'" States that businesses may not maintain "different policies for married couples and gay members who cannot legally wed...[after] a sweeping domestic partner law that took effect January 1 [2005]." Explains that "the country club case was brought by Birgit Koebke, 48, an avid golfer." Concludes that the case "[rejected] the country club's claim...that it limited spousal benefits to married members for the legitimate goal of creating a family-friendly environment." |
