Abstract/Contents: | Discusses potential spring transitioning methods. Suggests the use of transition herbicides. Describes potential problems with "natural" transitions, stating that "it is vital that the turf manager plan an exit strategy for actively transitioning out of ryegrass to bermudagrass with a transition aid." Also discusses fast and slow transitions. States that "with any transition program using an herbicide to remove the ryegrass, [superintendents] also need to apply a quick-release nitrogen source to boost the bermudagrass." Concludes that "the real winner...is the end user (golfer or athlete)...because turf managers can...use whichever type of herbicides they need to develop an exit strategy that minimizes the chance for a bad transition." |
