Abstract/Contents: | Offers suggestions for superintendents considering a restoration or renovation project, stating that "it is important for the superintendent to work with his membership to determine what is hoped to be accomplished while understanding what was in place at the time of the golf course's original construction." Mentions that "local newspapers and aerial photographs can prove valuable as resources for information." Explains that for restoration projects "the club has to understand that preservation and modernization often come in conflict, and they have to realize that while there can be some modernization that occurs, for the most part they have to understand what was there in the past, embrace that and try to restore than and make it a priority." States that "by contrast, renovation is undertaken when something is lacking on the golf course or if it fails to inspire play." Concludes that "good records should be kept throughout the restoration or renovation process, and the club's membership should be apprised about how much maintenance will be required following a major project and to budget for it accordingly." |
