Abstract/Contents: | Discusses environmental considerations in golf course management. States that "in greenkeeping, botanical disturbance to the playing surface means just what is says. It can occur in many ways including pitch marking on greens, aeration in all its forms...foot traffic, mechanical damage, scorch and chemical damage, excessive verticutting, grooming, and scarification." Explains that "disturbance, whether it is voluntarily applied to the turf or inadvertently delivered, can have a negative impact on botanical composition." Suggests that "the best golfing grasses are often found on those courses where inputs and disturbance levels are lowest. The poorest swards are often found on courses where resources are limitless, and disturbance through voluntary greenkeeping inputs is excessive." |
