Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the role of personnel management, highlighting the Duich Pie Theory, developed by Dr. Joseph Duich. Highlights the author's first lecture in Dr. Duich's class, stating that "Dr. Duich turned his back to the class and drew a large circle on the chalk board...He then extracted a small slice of the 'pie' by drawing a triangle adjacent to the circle. In the triangle, he wrote the word 'turf.' Then on the remaining 90 percent of the circle, he wrote the word 'people.'" Explains that "regardless of the type or location of the turfgrass [turf managers] are responsible for maintaining, as turfgrass managers, a major component of...success rests on [the] ability to hire, train, lead, motivate, inspire and encourage...staff." |
