Abstract/Contents: | "A major project at the station deals with post-harvest handling of sod. Studies are in progress relating to sod heating in transit and storage, soil removal and organic matter retun from sod harvesting, and all phases of sod establishment following harvest. A considerable percentage of sod is installed in areas of shade. When shade is provided by trees there is added pressure by way of tree competition for moisture and nutrients. Sod pieces are being treated with various chemicals, hormones, wetting agents and charcoal throughout the season in an effort to improve the spped of establishment in adverse situations and during difficult seasons of the year. This study is in it's third year." |
