Abstract/Contents: | "In December 1967 soil warming cables were installed in three main blocks to provide heating densities of 5 W, 10 W, and 15 W per sq. ft. The cables are spaced 12" apart at a depth of 6". During the heating operation in the winter soil temperatures are controlled by thermostats which regulate the power input. Control panels and temperature recording instruments are located in the fieldhouse. In June 1968 five turfgrass species were seeded after the old sod was removed. Studies with various temperatures, turf covers, fertility levels, sod rooting, and winter seeding will be conducted as soon as cold weather sets in." |
