Abstract/Contents: | Suggests that turfgrass managers in Minnesota have two primary concerns, turfgrasses that can survive harsh temperature conditions and turfgrasses that require fewer in puts on water, pesticides, and fertilizer. Mentions that perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is popular in Minnesota, however the species has high susceptibility to rust disease and poor winterhardiness. Mentions an initiative to develop cultivars of prairie junegrass (Koeleria marcrantha). States that "we have found that several of the fine fescues species can provide acceptable low-input golf course fairway turf; therefore, we are beginning to improve germplasm specifically for this purpose." |
