Abstract/Contents: | "The laboratory germination of eight seed lots of cultivar RvP was compared both before and after controlled deterioration (CD), and the emergence from soil at field capacity was assessed in three temperature regimes. The lots differed in the rank order of their emergence from soil at different temperatures. CD results in independent changes in the mean germination time and the percentage emergence of the eight seed lots. Emergence from soil at moderate temperatures could be predicted from laboratory germination before CD or after CD for 12 or 24 hours, but no germination parameter, either before or after CD could predict seeding emergence from soil in a cool or a hot temperature regime. The results also provide evidence for the improvement of germination by presowing rehydration treatments." |
