Abstract/Contents: | "Soil moisture levels may affect the distribution of white grubs in the urban environment. Studies of oviposition and egg survival showed that developing eggs absorbed water from soil and increased more than 4-fold in weight. Eggs developed normally at all soil moisture levels above the wilting point, but females laid over twice as many eggs in moist soil (65% field capacity) as in wet (80% f.c.) or dry (38% f.c.) soil. Research on the water relations of masked chafer eggs is continuing." |
