Abstract/Contents: | "Under cold-semihumid climate, eleven fescue varieties grew well in sub alpine zone with an altitude of 2950 m, in south Gansu of China. The seeds germinated and grew to tillering stage only in the first year. The growth duration from regreen to seed maturation needed 110~125 days in the second year. The forage showed a high yield (over 7500 kg/hm2) with rich leaves (30%~50% of leaves and inflorescences). Of 11 varieties, 4 tall fescues (Ande, Houndog, Furtess, Sunlight) and 1 red fescue (Porked) could produce fine seeds (750 kg/hm2 or so); and the other two, red fescue II and north-west fescue, could be used in city grassland because of their short plant, longer green duration and seed-propagation capacity." |
