Abstract/Contents: | The various kinds of erosional processes are described and analyzed to better facilitate a more effective and direct approach to erosion control. Natural factors contributing to erosion, such as the compostition of the rock and soil surface, its inclination, the amounts of rain and snowfall it receives, its exposure to wind and extremes in temperature have been accelerated by human induced erosion through agriculture, forestry, and above all through the increased tourism to high altitudes. Due to the diverse stresses upon this fragile environment, it has proved difficult to retard erosion effectively. Seven methods of high altitude planting are outlined, and their effectiveness evaluated. Each individually proves to be too limited to effect much change, but combinations depending on the given area may prove more effective. |
