Abstract/Contents: | "A field experiment consisting of five levels each of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was conducted on established Kentucky bluegrass turf during 1957 and 1958. This experiment utilized a composite statistical design in randomized blocks replicated four times. Yield data with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium analysis of foliage from selected harvests were supplemented by visual ratings of turfgrass response. Climatological data was recorded throughout the growth season. Increasing increments of nitrogen stimulated yields regardless of phosphorus and potassium treatment. Interactions between nitrogen and phosphorus and between phosphorus and potassium were found to be statistically significant in their effects on yields. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content of foliage varied with time of harvest. A direct linear relationship between the uptake of phosphorus and potassium and rate of application was noted but the higher the rate of nitrogen application the lower was the percentage of phosphorus found in the foliage. Nitrogen content of foliage was found to vary under the influence of fluctuating environmental conditions but was correlated directly with dry matter yields. Release of ureaformaldehyde nitrogen throughout the growth season followed trends of nitrogen availability in the check plots." |
