Abstract/Contents: | "Yard trimmings were banned from landfill disposal in Iowa on January 1, 1991." It was around this time that a couple from Martinsdale, Iowa began Organic Technologies Corporation (OTC) as a small composting business for their farm. This on-farm facility has expanded "to handle a projected 20,000 tons of diverse organics per year with help from a state grant." OTC has established was is called a "bag-based collection program". The company also has specific procedures for handling materials processing and recycled equipment. A number of case study observations have been conducted of the OTC facility. Plans for future growth are detailed in the article. |
