Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a study conducted to examine the link between Aspergillus fumigatus and the incidence of allergy and asthma symptoms in the Town of Islip, New York. Residents of Islip and surrounding areas complained of health complications which they believed were related to the 40 acre composting site opened in the fall of 1988. "The incidence of allergy and asthma symptoms among residents living near the compost facility was not associated with airborne Aspergillus fumigatus spore levels. However, the report notes that the existence of such an association cannot be completely dismissed." |
