Abstract/Contents: | "Trinexapac-ethyl at rates ranging from 200 to 1000 g ai/ha reduced water use of warm and cool season turfgrasses in the greenhouse compared to untreated checks. Water use reduction ranged from 6% with FESAR [Festuca arundinacea Schreb.] to 55% with STPSE [Stenotaphrum secundatum] depending in rate of trinexapac-ethyl used. Water use of STPSE, PASNO [Paspalum notatum Flugge] , CYNDA [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] , LOLPE [Lolium perenne L.] , POAPR [Poa pratensis L.], and FESAR treated with triexapac-ethyl at 600 g ai/ha was reduced 20, 29, 8, 19, 10, and 6% respectively. Trinexapac-ethyl applied at 200 and 600 g ai/ha to STPSE, CYNDA, and LOLPE reduced water use more than flurprimidol at 280 g ai/ha. The effect of triexapac-ethyl on reducung turfgrass water use is based on reducing the amount of leaf area for transpiration rather than actually reducing plant transpiration rate." |
