Abstract/Contents: | "Three bentgrass cultivars, selected for variable growth habit, were seeded at 1.25#/M on May 22, 1994 on the experimental greens. In addition to cultivar performance and growing media comparison, the experimental focus during the first year of the project was to evaluate 3 grow-in fertilizer systems that represent different levels of management intensity. Except for differences within the first month of establishment, there were no significant differences between cultivars, systems or the interactions between the two. Quality ratings were taken based on color, uniformity, leaf texture, disease resistence and overall plot vigor. Early color ratings favored the darker green Providence and Crenshaw, but, an overall visual evaluation did not reveal these differences. At several times during the study, quality of the high intensity system may not have been what might be experienced on a course where putting green quality expectations are high. Still, without an evaluation of functional quality, i.e. ball roll, no clear conclusions can be drawn." |
