Abstract/Contents: | "Tillers of the grasses Festuca ovina and Briza media and seeds of Lotus corniculatus and Plantago lanceolata collected from soils derived from Carboniferous limestone and dolomite were grown in nutrient solutions in which the concentrations of calcium and magnesium were varied. The populations showed different responses to these two ions and the differences were taken to indicate their adaptation to the calcium and magnesium status of the soils from which they were collected. Calcium-magnesium antagonism was noted with Lotus corniculatus and Plantago lanceolata but not with Festuca ovina and Briza media." |
