Abstract/Contents: | Describes the design and construction of the Links at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California. Built on the site of an old sand mine in 1987, Spanish Bay is an 18-hole course, and is described as an environmental golf course. Designers of the course had to go through three to five years of hearings in order to get permission to start construction on the course. Opponents to the construction of the course wanted the land to be restored without any development on the site so that the site would not become a "toxic waste dump because of the fertilizers and pesticides that would be put on it." |
