Abstract/Contents: | Surface temperatures of hooves of calves given toxic anionic fractions of tall fescue (see VB 46, abst 696) were measured with an infrared sensitive camera. Changes expressed as a weighted average coronary band temperature correlated with clinical signs of fescue foot. Results in control calves given saline solution were 27 deg and 31 deg C, and in test calves given anionic fractions of tall fescue were as low as 22 plus or minus 1 deg C. Videothermometry provides a permanent record that is useful in assessing the toxicity of tall fescue fractions by i/p injection and measuring the progress of fescue foot syndrome. |
