Abstract/Contents: | Reviews two experiments established to gather research evidence necessary to form judgements about the role that turfgrass nutrition and soil pH play in the incidence and severity of turfgrass diseases in Wisconsin. The experiment conducted at the O.J. Noer Turfgrass Research and Education Facility varied the annual N rate, N carrier, N-P-K combinations, and lime and sulfur applications. Results showed that none of these variables (annual N rate ranging from 2 to 8 lb/M, application of P and/or K in conjucntion with N at a 4 lb N/M annual rate, use of soluble or slow-release N carriers, and lime or sulfur applications) influenced incidence of disease. The effects of increasing N rates at the 8 lb annual N rate led to lower dollar spot infection and rate of spread. The second experiment, conducted on two Wisconsin golf courses, focuses on take-all patch control via soil pH reduction. Results showed a lower incidence of dollar spot when urea rather than Poly-S or ammonium sulfate was the N carrier. |
