Abstract/Contents: | In four clones deriving from Nakei 4, differing in their chlorophyll content per unit leaf area and grown at three plant densities, the optimum leaf area index was lowest in the clone with the second lowest chlorophyll content at the lowest density and highest in the clone with the highest chlorophyll content at the highest density. Similarly the maximum crop growth rate or maximum dry-matter production rate was obtained in the clone with the highest chlorophyll content. The crop growth rate depended more on the chlorophyll index than on the leaf area index. |
