Abstract/Contents: | "A greenhouse experiment was carried out with 52 cm columns made to USGA green specifications and sodded to 'Tifdwarf' bermudagrass. Fertilizer sources were balanced soluble and poly and sulfur coated granular at N rates of 0, 12, 24, and 49 kg N ha ⁻¹ per week for 6 weeks. Irrigation rate was 0.63 cm per day initially and increased to 1.25 cm per day at week 7. Weekly leachate collections for 23 weeks were analyzed for P and NO₃-N. Concentration of P in the leachate for the soluble source was nearly two times of the granular source at week 11 when concentrations peaked. Differences between sources then were greatest at the lower P rate where P concentrations in the leachate were 4.3 mg kg⁻¹ and 0.5 mg kg⁻¹ for the soluble and granular sources, respectively. The percentage of added N leached over the entire 23 weeks for the soluble source was twice that for the granular source at the 24 kg N ha⁻¹ rate and 1.5 times at the 49 kg N ha⁻¹ rate. Percent N leached was the same at the 12 kg N ha⁻¹ rate." |
