| Abstract/Contents: | "Tufted hairgrass (Deschampsia caespitosa) is a cool season, tufted, fairly vigorous bunchgrass found in the northern and southern temperate zones and high altitude tropics. It is currently known as a wetland restoration and development grass and is used as a reclamation grass. In reclamation and restoration situations tufted hairgrass is currently well adapted to a wide variety of soil types and textures and is well suited to bogs, wetlands, stream banks, and marshes and is tolerant of saline and alkaline condition. In a trial screening nontraditional species for their possible value as turf, tufted hairgrass has shown great potential. Recent trials under various mowing heights have indicated that once established tufted hairgrass can provide an extremely wear resistant turf. This poster discusses the current possible uses and future potential of tufted hairgrass." |
