Cultivar Names:Penncross
Abstract/Contents:"Inoculation studies were used to determine the efficacy of NeemGuard® and Algaen-X® fungicides against Rhizoctonia solani on 'Penncross' bentgrass. The biological and chemical protectants were applied to the foliar canopy of Penncross bentgrass field plugs (8 cm diam) 48 hours prior to inoculation with Rhizoctonia solani. Foliar disease assessments were made four days following inoculation and incubation at 27C. Applications of NeemGuard® at concentrations 13.0oz/1000ft² reduced disease damage by 64.8 percent over the non-treatment control, while applications at 6.55oz/1000ft² and 3.27oz/1000ft² reduced disease severity by 44.5% and 40%. The Algen-X® offered little disease protection to the Penncross bentgrass. Disease severity on grass plugs treated with Algen-X® at 12.5oz/1000ft² reduced disease by only 19.5% over the non-treated control and the highest rate applied at 25oz./1000ft² reduced disease severity by only 39.5%, while causing phytotoxicity to the bentgrass plugs."
