Abstract/Contents: | Discusses some of the problems caused by thatch including: poor water and nutrient infiltration, increased occurrences of turf diseases, difficulty distributing pesticides, difficulty rennovating and overseeding, and poor color in fall and winter. Thatch benefits include: weed control, cushioning, insulation, and conservation of moisture. Also discusses causes of thatch and tools for combatting thatch, which include verticutting, removing cores, and top dressing. |
