Abstract/Contents: | States that in the early days of golf in Scotland, ecological issues were not a factor; however, in modern times there is a scarcity of appropriate land which can be used for golf courses. Discusses how the movement of the earth should be taken into account in golf course construction. Contends that plant life which is ecological friendly does not present challenges on the golf course which are unconquerable. Mentions that while the early days of golf required little in the ways of maintenance, being tended mostly by sheep and rabbits, modern-day maintenance employs much more technology, and perhaps less fertilizer use and a more careful choice of grass may help maintain the ecological balance. |
