The growth and performance of newly developed Zoysiagrass and Bermudagrass was evaluated under the environmental conditions of Saudi Arabia. Experiments were carried out to select the most suitable cultivars for such conditions. Two sites were used in this study, AlKhafjy at the Eastern coastal province of the country and Muzahmiah at the central dry region of Riyadh. Experiments in both sites were designed in RCBD plots and data was collected from each. Growth parameters i.e., establishment rate, turf density, color and quality of the turfs were evaluated monthly for about two years. The 9 cultivars under study showed different growth behavior. Bermuda grass showed the best color all year round where the Zoysia cultivars showed a lower leaf color during winters. The Bermuda grass cultivars shoed [showed] faster establishment and covering rates than zoysia even though both species gave good density within the first 6 months of cultivation."
