Abstract/Contents: | Examines mowing, which is "one of the most critical cultural practices in the maintenance of ultradwarf putting surfaces" Presents some tips on mowing at heights below 0.100", like making a test cut in order to detemine if you are disturbing the grade, making sure that you mow at different directions everytime, and finally topdressing and verticut routinely to smooth the putting surface. Discusses the importance of managing thatch, which is especially "a concern with the ultradwarf bermudas [because of] their more aggressive growth rate." Describes some of the problems of cutting bermudagrass so low, such as shade and the accumulation of localized dry spot. Illustrates the importance of proper lawn mower maintenance, and warns against damaging the equipment during transportation. Suggests that "greens mowing is continuing education." |
