Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the development of thatch and its relationship to nitrogen retention in the turfgrass medium. A study initiated in 1976 indicates that urea nitrogen was much more prone to leach than was IBDU Nitrogen. Losses due to volatilization in the layer of thatch was very high for urea as well. Controlling thatch build up through core cultivation and topdressing along with a slow release form of nitrogen fertilization. Deep vertical mowing will also bring more soil into the thatch layer and act to decompose it. |
