| Abstract/Contents: | "Cytokinin activity in the extracts from turfs of Zoysia matrella L. cv. Koraishiba was determined on February and March. The turfs were dirived [divided] into three parts;[:] upright stems, rhizomes and roots before extraction. For the upright stems, a level of zeatin was very low in February and also in March. Activities of IPA (isopentenyl adenine) and 2iP (isopentenyl adensine) were detected in March. For the rhizomes, a slightly high level of cytokinin in February, which co-chromatographed with zeatin, was followed by its increase in March. However, no activities which co-chromatographed with zeatin-riboside, glucosyl-zeatin or zeatin-riboside was detected in Feburary and in March. A level of cytokinin which co-chromaatographed with zeatin in the rhizomes during the period from Feburary to March was significantly higher than that in the roots, suggesting that a small amount of zeatin was synthesized in the roots during this period, but that its transportation from the roots to the upper parts did not take place. Subsequently, zeatin in the upright stems and rhizomes before bud burst was thought to be synthesized in the cells of these tissues. After bud burst, zeatin synthesis in the roots was strongly promoted. Consequently, a high level of zeatin in the roots was detected in April. It was discussed in present paper that cytokinin which contributed to the onset of growth in spring was synthesized in the cells of rhizomes but not of roots." |
